When to prove that technology kills creativity because

When you
think of the word technology, what comes to mind? The average person thinks
that technology deals with gadgets or gizmos, however,
there is more to the meaning of that word called “Technology”. Technology is
scientific knowledge or can be described as products or processes that are used
to accomplish various tasks in our daily lives such as learning, communication,
creating artifacts and so much more (Ramey, 2013). Another important term we
need to understand is creativity. When people think about creativity, they
think about expressing themselves like an
artist. However, the ability to use imagination or original ideas to create
inventions is considered to be creativity. With advances in technology, there is
a belief that technology diminishes one’s creativity (Franken,
2006). Studies have shown that there are pros and cons to technology with
respect to enhancing and destroying creativity. Therefore, the aim of this
study is to prove that technology kills creativity because it hinders human
imagination; computing has replaced creativity and education is not needed to enhance your

During an
interview, Albert Einstein quoted “I am enough of the artist to draw freely
upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is
limited. Imagination encircles the world” (Nilsson, 2013). The use of
technology has restricted persons from thinking outside
the box because they are provided with medium and resources that limits their
creative thinking and hinders their use of imagination. The internet has
provided such services to carbon copy another person’s idea to make it their
original art piece and as a result of this, they are limited to their
creativity. Thomas Edison once said, “To
invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk” (Naiman and
Naiman, 2017). With the help of person artwork being showcased whether on the internet or an old portrait, it can cause persons to
challenge themselves by creating new ideas and enhance their skills by creating
a new artwork. For example, “Da Vinci’s most famous paintings, his mural
The Last Supper has been an endless source of inspiration for artists and
pop-culture parodists. But it’s Andy Warhol who elevated this depiction of
Jesus’ last meal with his disciples to pop art iconography” (Berman, 2012).
Although having access to the material
can enhance ones’ skills it can also decrease ones’ creativity and originality.

artists such as Bill Graham and Norman Rockwell started off painting as a hobby
and gradually developed their art with limited tools such as pencils, paper,
sculptures, charcoal, brushes or paints to create inspirational pieces that
communicated with persons emotions and
motivated up and coming artists to get involved; and now today they are known
to be the graphic design foundation artists of the 1900s. In Modern times, computing has replaced creativity with Digital Arts. Digital
Art is a revolutionized method where images are done on the computer without
the use of tangible art tools; or hand
drawings can be scanned into the computer and then completed using software
programs such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop (Souter, 2018). In years
to come education in artistry will no longer be needed because with the use of technology, software programs
are readily available to create images. For example, paper, pens, images on the
internet and colour palettes are accessible
with the click of a button. The foundation of art is gradually dwindling and
being replaced with digital art so persons are becoming less creative and less

access to software on tablets, computers and cellular phones, it is easier for individuals
to enhance their skills leaving little to no use for classroom sessions. The
purpose of art institutes is to boost students’ talents through theory and
practical sessions with the knowledge and guidance of the tutors.  As technology evolved there has been the
creation of websites such as YouTube, which makes it easier for persons to get
access to tutorials instead of sitting in a classroom (Clockwork Moggy, 2017). The
purpose of the Software programs advertised on the internet is to enlighten potential customers about key features
highlights of the programs. With the new development of multiple graphic design
software programs, persons are given access to the programs through the use of
pirated software which has caused a problem in the creative field. With this
problem, persons are able to download the
programs and this was self-taught using countless videos that have been
uploaded to YouTube to all your course content anytime, anywhere once you are
connected to the internet without any fee. The tutor in the videos, teaches you how to become an efficient,
graphic designers and learners are able to enhance their knowledge by to understanding
the illustration concepts, procedures and
ideas (Pappas, 2015). Therefore, education at schools have now been reduced and
now persons have chosen the shortcut way
of learning to understand the basics on the websites instead of actually
getting certified within the field of study. As a result of this individuals’
creativity have dampened because these persons who
call themselves Graphic Designer, has taken over Art world with little or no
education of the field and create flyers, logos, posters and magazines just
like the certified Graphic Designers.

In conclusion,
technology is anything that is created by human to make life easier or solve
problems. Although technology has a lot of positive remarks in our day to day
living, it has negative feedbacks when it comes to our creativity in art or
graphic design. The moment computers and the internet were created persons imagination and originality started to
decrease because they had access to different mediums and other resources
anytime and any day. With advance
technology such as Digital arts, it has replaced ‘pen-to-paper’ art with the
click of a mouse to create images resulting in less creativity and less
innovation. Individuals do not need to go to art institutes to earn a degree in
Graphic design because tutorials on how to use the software programs are made
accessible on YouTube. Overall, technology and creativity goes hand in hand but it is becoming vivid that
technology is increasing and creativity in the art world is decreasing.
